Fixing a sink tap micro-switch...

Cleaning my teeth in the caravan bathroom sink one day, I noticed that when I turned the tap on to rinse my mouth the tap turned but nothing happened? Worse if I used the hot tap first, the pump would sound, then I could open the cold tap, turn the hot tap off and the cold tap still worked. What was going on !!??!!

A few seconds on Google and my suspicions were confirmed - the microswitch on the tap had failed and the sink needed taking apart somehow?

Looking at it the tap, a mixer, had a baseplate with four screws in and it seemed logical to start there. Well it did to me!! Sadly, that may have helped me if the aperture left behind had been a bit bigger, but, I assume in manufacture they fit the tap to the underside of the sink, turn it over and fit the pipes and microswitches/wiring before turning it all over and fit in situ!??!

Look at the pictures on the right and you will see it is actually a simple job to do to remove the whole sink, replace the microswitch, and refit.

Tools needed. Screwdriver, stanly knife or similar, tissues, a spray bottle of water and mastic. Very little else in truth. Total time to complete about 1 1/2 hours all told including cleaning up!

Memo...

I replaced the faulty Micrswitch and the following year I had to do the other one. Do both!!!!
